Girbau expects to grow 10% annually until 2016 with international business and the industrial division


The Catalan multinational Girbau, manufacturer of industrial laundry machinery, expects to close the year with a growth in turnover of around 10%, and to maintain this rhythm over the next two years as a result of the consolidation of its international business and the momentum of its industrial division, which produces equipment for laundries with a high production capacity.

Mercè Girbau, the Managing Director of the company based in Vic (Barcelona), said that they are hoping to close this year with a turnover of 112 million euros, of which 85% corresponds to their international business.

Girbau manufactures machines for laundering linen in hotels, residences, hospitals, prisons, self-service laundries, sports facilities and industries, among others, and is very specialised by sectors depending on the country - e.g. with self-service laundries in the United States and equipment for nursing homes in Great Britain, the intention is to continue growing and extending its different products in the countries in which it operates.

This is the case ofSpainandPortugal, where Girbau is growing because self-service laundries are proliferating - although to a much lesser extent than in theUnited States-, something that is also happening in Asian countries such asKoreaandMalaysia.

The company has a presence in some 80 countries, through dealers and its commercial subsidiaries located inArgentina,Brazil, theDominican Republic, theUnited States,Great Britain,France,Portugal,Italy, theUnited Arab Emirates,ChinaandAustralia, as well as a local office inCuba.


In the coming weeks Girbau expects to incorporate two new subsidiaries, one inGermany, where it currently has a local office, to which the company wants to give a new impetus, and a second in Cancun (Mexico), where it is creating a subsidiary mainly to provide a service that is closer to clients.

In Mexico, it aims to replicate the model in the Dominican Republic, where Girbau has had a subsidiary in Punta Cana since 2011, in order to offer a more direct and specialised service to the Spanish hotel chains, its main clients in the country.


The company also expects to grow by means of its industrial division, which provides equipment for laundries with a large production capacity, and which manufactures batch washers, dryers and flatwork ironing systems, produced in Vic and in the plant it has in Grésy-sur-Aix (France).

Much of the company's investment goes into R&D, in order to develop new products focused on saving resources and on energy efficiency, and providing more benefits for clients.

Girbau is the leading company in its sector inSpain, with a market share of over 50%, and the fifth worldwide, and its competitors are mainly German and American companies, and the Swedish company Electrolux.
